AMAS Release Notes for Version 5.5

Welcome to another exciting update from Extend Robotics! We are thrilled to bring you the latest release notes for Version 5.5 of our cutting-edge robotics software. In this blog post, we'll highlight the key features and improvements that will take your robotic experience to new heights. Let's dive in!

New and Intuitive UI Design

A fresh look and feel await you with our new user interface design. We have completely revamped the interface to provide a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. The updated design ensures that you can navigate through the software effortlessly, making it easier than ever to harness the full potential of our robotics platform.

Eye-to-Eye Calibration Between Cameras

For setups involving multiple cameras, precise calibration is crucial. In Version 5.5, we introduce an eye-to-eye calibration feature that ensures accurate alignment and synchronisation between cameras. Achieve seamless coordination and synchronization between multiple camera perspectives, providing a comprehensive view of your robotic environment.

Visual Indication of Force and Torque 6D Vector and Vibration

To provide you with valuable insights, we have introduced a new feature that uses a green 3D gripper icon varying in shades to indicate the magnitude of the maximum force or torque being exerted. This visual feedback allows you to monitor the direction of forces and torque in real-time. Your VR hand tracking controller will vibrate when force or torque is detected, and the strength of the vibration is linearly dependent on the magnitude of the force or torque

Note: This feature is currently available only for uFactory xArm with the additional Force Torque Sensor

Seamless Integration with xArm Force Torque Sensor

We are excited to introduce support for the xArm force torque sensor in this release. Now you can effortlessly integrate this sensor into your robotic systems, allowing for precise force and torque measurements. This integration opens new possibilities for delicate and sensitive tasks that require accurate force sensing.

Bidirectional Audio Transmission Support

With Version 5.5, we are excited to introduce support for bidirectional audio transmission. This feature allows for clear and seamless communication between your robot and the control interface. You can now transmit and receive audio signals, opening new possibilities for interactive and immersive experiences.

SenseKit Support for Ubuntu 20.04 and ROS Noetic Ninjemys

While moving towards ROS2 we support the last and latest ROS1 Noetic Ninjemys distribution (ROS EOL May 2025). This means stable and final ROS1 support for years to come as well as 20.04 + Noetic power and stability.

We still support earlier Ubuntu 18.04 ROS Melodic Morenia distribution (ROS EOL May 2023). This may be relevant for low-level ROS integrations with existing Melodic based systems.

SenseKit Nvidia NVENC and AMD VAAPI Support

Apart from existing Intel VAAPI acceleration we have added support for Nvidia NVENC and AMD VAAPI acceleration Those integrations enable hardware-accelerated video encoding resulting in improved video processing performance and efficiency on Intel, AMD and Nvidia based SenseKit. Harness the power of your GPU to elevate your video-related tasks to a whole new level.

Improved Volumetric Noise Handling with Background Modelling

To ensure a more accurate and realistic representation of sensor data, we have implemented enhanced noise handling in our data pipelines. This improvement minimizes the impact of sensor noise, delivering a smoother and more visually appealing experience without sacrificing response time. Immerse yourself in a world of precise and high-quality visuals with Version 5.5.

Expanded and improved RealSense Camera Support

We are excited to expand our camera compatibility by adding support for the RealSense D405. Now you can leverage the advanced capabilities of this camera model, such as close-range depth sensing and 3D vision, to enhance your robotic applications. Enjoy a wider range of possibilities with our extended RealSense Camera support. We have also improved the reliability of our SenseKits when used with the RealSense cameras.

Expanded Compatibility with Robotic Gripper

We understand the importance of versatility when it comes to robotic systems. That's why we are excited to announce the addition of support for the Robotiq Gripper in Version 5.5. Now you can seamlessly integrate the Robotiq Gripper into your robotic workflows, enabling a wide range of gripping and manipulation tasks.

Over-the-Air Firmware Update Installation

Keeping your robotic systems up to date has never been easier. With Version 5.5, we introduce over-the-air installation for firmware updates. This means you can conveniently update the firmware of your robotic devices without the need for manual intervention. Stay at the forefront of technology with hassle-free and efficient firmware updates.

Added Support for new Co-bots

We are glad to announce that the software now supports uFactory Lite6 and Universal Robots e-Series: UR10e. The former is targeted towards the clients in need of an inexpensive and general task robot, a perfect use-case fit with demonstrations, and the latter is an industrial grade heavy payload robot for a more robust use-case.

Support for Mixed Reality passthrough on both Quest Pro (colour) and Quest 2 (grayscale)

Immerse yourself in the teleoperation experience like never before! Extend Robotics software now supports mixed reality passthrough on both Quest Pro (colour) and Quest 2 (grayscale) headsets. This feature enables you to blend virtual and real-world visuals, providing a seamless and immersive teleoperation environment.

Note: This feature is available for standalone VR experience (AMAS running on Headset without PC)

Device Configuration File Management

Managing device configurations has never been easier. Version 5.5 introduces a new feature that allows you to add, load, save, and delete device configuration files directly on the VR headset through the AMAS application. This streamlined process in sync with our new UI design enhances configuration management, ensuring quick and convenient access to your preferred device settings.

Conclusion

With Version 5.5, Extend Robotics continues to push the boundaries of robotics software. We have listened to your feedback and implemented numerous enhancements to provide you with a more reliable, efficient, and immersive robotic experience. Embrace the future of robotics with Extend Robotics and unlock endless possibilities. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, happy robotics!
